How to Install or Remove Fonts in Windows
(Estimated Time: 5-10 minutes approx, Level= Novice User)

Alright lets walkthrough installing a new font on the computer. For installing a new font you first need to download a font you like. A popular site for getting free fonts for windows is http://www.1001freefonts.com/

Lets download one of the fonts from this site for Windows. I am downloading the very first Baroque Script font from this homepage. You should be able to download a zip file of the font for windows. Unzip the file to your desktop.  The font file has a .ttf extension just like an image file has a .jpg extension. ttf stands for TrueType Font File.

If you double click on the font file you should see a screen like the one below.

This just verifies that you have downloaded the correct font file. Now we are almost half way through.

Now there are a couple of ways to install the font onto your system.

Method 1:

This is the easiest way to install a font.

  •  Click on Start --> Control Panel.

  • Make sure you are in the Classic View of the Control Panel. You should see the below screen with icons. To switch to classic view you need to click on "Switch to Classic View" on the top left corner of your visible window. You can toggle between Classic and Category View.

  • Click on the Fonts icon from the Control Panel.

  • Now just simply drag and drop your file to this Fonts folder or just Copy and Paste or go to Menubar and click on 'File' --> and then 'Install New Font' and then browse to your location of the font.

Method 2:

  • Click on Start --> Run

  • Type in Fonts and press Enter. You should see the screenshot shown in the previous method.

  • Now simply copy and paste your font file and your font should be installed.

Lets now verify if our font has been installed correctly. Lets open up Wordpad from Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Wordpad.

From the Fonts dropdown select the just installed font and try to type in something. Congratulations you have successfully installed a new windows Font.

How to now remove an installed font?

This should be easy we open the Fonts folder again.

  • Click on Start --> Run

  • Type in Fonts and press Enter. You should see the screenshot shown in the previous method.

  • Select the font file by single clicking on it and hit the delete button.

  • When you receive the "Are you sure you want to delete these fonts?" prompt, click Yes and you are done.
